… you set up GSLB for your own personal infrastructure.
For some time I’ve had kit in both Sydney and the US. Whilst most of my key services run off of my VPS in the US, and I intend to keep it that way, it seems a shame not to make better use of the kit I have in Sydney.
So thanks to PowerDNS, the geo backend, nerd.dk’s IP->Country mapping, and some experimentation, I can now start balancing services across the sites.
Currently, I’m only using it for the Single Sign-On system (more on that in another post), but ultimately I’ll expand it to cover a few more things – maybe even this blog.
Note to self: The following command, as root, will rescan the SCSI bus under Linux. Useful for adding a new HDD to a VM without rebooting it.
echo "- - -" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/scan

Posting this more for my own reference than anything else, but Scott Lowe has an excellent write-up of the basic commands for zoning an MDS9000 SAN Switch.

Next time you release a patch for Office Communications Server, hows about making the patch gracefully fail if it’s prerequisites aren’t met.
Like, say, a system component needing to be installed that wasn’t required previously.
If anyone else tries to install KB967831 for Office Communications Server 2007 R2, bear in mind you need to install MSMQ on the server first.
That’s 1 hour of my life I’m never getting back.
Yeah. It’s probably about time I gave this whole blogging thing a try. Again.
I make no promises about how frequently this will be updated, or how useful the posts will be, but hey, doesn’t hurt to try right?
